The Earth is a Magnet

One room dedicated to photographer Berenice Abbott is divided into nine thematic categories that classify over 80 pieces of her photography and ephemera into distinct aspects of her practice: her inventions, her portraits, her Super Sight, her writing, her science photography, her work on Eugene Atget. The other room displays recent works by nine contemporary artists made in sculpture, animation, photography and drawings. These artists include Jill Magid, Matt Keegan, Erika Vogt, A.L. Steiner, Katherine Hubbard, Lucy Raven, Fia Backström, Mika Rottenberg, and MPA. Each of the works from these artists bears a likeness to one of the 9 thematic categories in the Abbott room.

Commissioned by the Boston ICA for The Artist’s Museum, 2016
